Joe Miller

Since leaving his role as an Investment Banker in 2020, Joe has been a full-time private tutor based in London.  He teaches Economics, History, Business and Maths, as well as mentors students through the application process to schools and universities across Britain.

Prior to this, Joe worked as a tutor for 5 years alongside his A-levels, undergraduate degree and masters.  Having grown up in Berkshire, Joe moved to London in 2015 to study for a BSc in Economics and Economic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  He achieved a First Class Honours classification, ranking in the top 5% of his cohort and being awarded the Leunig Prize for Economic History.  Joe was also the first undergraduate student to have a paper published in the LSE’s Economic and Social History Journal (see article here).

In 2019, Joe undertook an MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford, where his research focus was on Britain’s early modern living standards and institutions.  Joe received a Distinction in each of his modules and dissertation.

TEACHING STYLE & PHILOSOPHY

Outside the classroom, Joe is a keen sportsman and technology enthusiast.  He played college football at Oxford and, whilst at LSE, Joe Co-Founded London Blockchain Labs, the UK’s largest student blockchain hub.

Joe’s teaching style and philosophy are underpinned by the belief that a tutor should be more than a teacher, acting as a role model and mentor that students can look to for inspiration.  Having taught children of all ages - from those preparing for their 11+ to those applying for Masters degrees - Joe is flexible and adapts his teaching to find the optimal learning environment for each student.
